What is TumTUFF®?

TumTUFF® is a high-density pipe insulation support block that carries the load and insulates in one piece. Its high-density core holds its shape under heavy, large-diameter piping where ordinary supports crush, wrapped in polyisocyanurate and an ASJ vapor barrier so the thermal and moisture line stays continuous through the support.
Built after a real insulation system failure on large-diameter chilled water lines, it delivers reliable support that prevents condensation, pipe stress, and pinch-point failure.

The Problem TumTUFF® Was Built to Solve

The trouble starts on flat surfaces. Clevis hangers and rollers typically only go up to about 24 inches, so big lines often end up resting on racks, stands, and I-beams. A round pipe on a flat surface puts the whole system’s weight on one pinch point, and conventional insulation supports simply can’t hold up there.

We ran into this with crushing supports on flat I-beam runs, where the standard approach failed every time. That’s the reason we developed the TumTUFF® pipe insulation support: a high-density block that takes the load at that pinch point instead of collapsing under it.

How a TumTUFF® Pipe Insulation Support Block Is Built

Each support is engineered as one piece that carries weight and insulates at the same time. Here’s what goes into it:

  • A high-density TumTUFF® core that bears the load without crushing under heavy, large-bore piping.
  • Polyisocyanurate insulation with an ASJ vapor barrier, so the support holds the same thermal and moisture line as the rest of the system.
  • A bent all-thread that wraps and tightens around the pipe and insulation, securing it in place. The bottom all-thread is required for the weight load, and a second one is suggested to secure the pipe down.

The result is a support that drops into your flat-stand or I-beam location and carries the line without leaving a weak spot in the insulation.

Installation and Sealing

Getting the seal right is what keeps the system from failing at the support. Our suggested method is straightforward:

  1. Cut the support in at the pipe location.
  2. Run CP70 sealant around it to seal the joint.
  3. Wrap the ASJ vapor barrier on the outside for an interior mechanical system.
  4. Add a metal jacket over the top for exterior runs that need weather protection.

That sequence keeps the vapor barrier continuous through the support, which is the whole point of a cold system.

Sizes We Manufacture

We build the TumTUFF® pipe insulation support to fit the job, not the other way around:

  • Pipe sizes from 16 inches up to 54 inches in outer diameter.
  • Insulation thickness from 1 inch to 4 inches, with thicker builds for the colder mechanical systems that call for it.
  • Smallest standard build is a 16-inch pipe with 1-inch insulation. Larger and colder lines step up from there.

If you’ve got a size or load that doesn’t fit a catalog, that’s exactly the kind of build we do.

Why a TumTUFF® Pipe Insulation Support Blocks Beats Conventional Options

  • It carries the load. Built for the heavy, large-bore lines that crush standard supports on flat surfaces.
  • It keeps the insulation intact. No pinched insulation, no lost thickness at the support point.
  • It protects the vapor barrier. ASJ barrier plus CP70 sealant keeps the moisture line continuous on cold systems.
  • It’s made to your spec. Fabricated from 16 to 54-inch pipe and 1 to 4-inch thick, in-house.

Why Premier Mechanical Products

  • We invented the fix. TumTUFF® came out of solving a real crushing-support problem, not a catalog.
  • We fabricate and apply. The support, the insulation, the vapor barrier, and the jacketing come from one source.
  • A real fab shop in Kansas City. On Kansas Ave, we fabricate and ship nationwide.
  • Built for the hard jobs. Large-bore, heavy, flat-stand, and I-beam applications that other supports can’t handle.
  • Real people, fast quotes. Call and you’ll reach someone who can actually answer.

How We Build Your TumTUFF® Pipe Insulation Support Block

1. Send the specs

Give us the pipe size, the insulation thickness, the load at the support, and whether the line runs hot or cold.

2. We confirm the conditions

We check whether the pipe sits on a flat rack, stand, or I-beam, and how it gets secured, since that drives the all-thread and the build.

3. We fabricate the support

We build the TumTUFF® core with polyiso and an ASJ vapor barrier, sized from 16 to 54-inch pipe and 1 to 4 inches thick to match your system.

4. We ship fast

Supports are ready to cut in, seal with CP70, and finish with ASJ or a metal jacket. Most orders go out in a few days.

TumTUFF® Pipe Insulation Support Blocks FAQs

It's a high-density, load-bearing insulation support built to carry heavy pipe on flat racks and I-beams without crushing. It combines a TumTUFF core with polyiso and an ASJ vapor barrier, so the support holds the line and keeps the insulation continuous.

You need it when a heavy, large-bore line rests on a flat surface, where the weight lands on one pinch point and ordinary supports crush. Clevis hangers and rollers usually only go to about 24 inches, so bigger lines on stands and I-beams are the typical case.

We manufacture from a 16-inch pipe up to a 54-inch pipe, with insulation thickness from 1 to 4 inches. The smallest standard build is a 16-inch pipe with 1 inch insulation.

You cut it in at the pipe location, run CP70 sealant around it, then wrap the ASJ vapor barrier on the outside. Exterior runs get a metal jacket over the top for weather protection.

Yes. The polyiso core carries an ASJ vapor barrier, and the CP70 sealant ties it into the surrounding insulation, so there's no break in the moisture line at the support.

We fabricate TumTUFF® pipe insulation supports in our Kansas City, KS shop on Kansas Ave and ship them nationwide. Send us your pipe size, insulation thickness, and the load at the support, and we'll build it to match.

The supports are designed with high compressive strength (65,000 psi) to safely carry the combined weight of the pipe, insulation, and water without system failure under sustained loads.

Yes. With a 0.1 percent water transfer and thermal insulation properties to minimize heat transfer. This significantly reduces condensation formation and helps maintain system energy efficiency.

Absolutely, it is fully compatible with all common insulation materials and vapor barrier used in chilled water piping systems.

Yes, it performs well in mechanical rooms, rooftop installations, and underground applications when properly protected according to project specifications.

It is engineered for decades of reliable service with virtually no maintenance, thanks to its superior dimensional stability and resistance to moisture.
